Mallee Bearings Jason Lyons Solo Trophy

Mallee Bearings Jason Lyons Solo Trophy

A field which will be strongly represented in the 2018 Australian Solo Championship has been gathered together to contest the Mallee Bearings – Jason Lyon Trophy meeting on Saturday 30th December.

The crack field is headed by former World Under 21 Champion, Max Fricke and current Aussie Number two, Justin Sedgmen, along with the cream of Australia’s up and coming riders who are the future of Australian Speedway.

Led by local chargers, Jordy Stewart, Jaimon Lidsey, Cooper Riordan and the former and dual World 250cc Champion, Matthew Gilmore, the meeting will be a meeting of the future. Regular visitors from SA, Dakota Ballantyne and Rob Medson will contest against Victorian visitor and Australian Long Track Champion, James Davies and a contingent from Queensland in Zaine Kennedy, Josh McDonald and Declan Knowles.

These riders will maintain the standard of great riding in the Mallee Bearings – Jason Lyons meeting, which is a fitting tribute to the Mildura great who had such a wonderful career in England and Europe and who has never forgotten the Club where he made his start and is proud to still serve.

A strong support class of younger Solo riders will add to the quality of the evening where we will see Declan Kennedy, Josh Coyne from Queensland riding against SA’s Brayden

McGiunness and locals, Chris Ferguson, Oliver Hamilton, Brock Gates, Aden Clare and a first home track ride for Tom Dixon.

This support class will be entertaining as well as being of great interest to patrons who enjoy to observe the development of young riders as they move through the ranks.

Featuring too will be a group of 250cc Junior riders, riding on the big track as another support section. Again riders are coming from far afield, including NSW and Queensland with riders, Keynan Rew, Jacob Hook, Bradley Page, Bailey Viner, Jack Miles and local Patrick Hamilton.

Riders will be using this opportunity for track time as the 250cc Australian Junior Title will be held at Olympic Park, amongst all of Australia’s Junior Titles, including the 2018 Australian Under 21 Championship from 18th to 21st January 2018.

A small group of Sidecars will also take to the track. They include, Byren Gates / Mick O’Loughlin, Nathan Cock / Jack Wilson, Luke Gammond / Jaeben Underhill and Andrew Gault / Brad Pitt.

Whilst only small in number, the Sidecars, as usual, will provide great entertainment for patrons just a day before we celebrate the start of 2018.

Locals and visitors are reminded that visiting family and friends in Mildura over the Christmas / New Year period are most welcome to attend Olympic Park on Wednesday 27th and Saturday 30th December for some great family entertainment.

Again, Olympic Park gates will open at 5:00pm with a Junior program getting under way from 6:30 pm and the Jason Lyons Trophy meeting to begin at 7:30pm.

The Club advises that a full catering service is provided for patrons and that free Grandstand accommodation is available and that there must be NO BYO by law.

Olympic Park speedway is the home of wonderful “Family entertainment”.
