CRUMP TROPHY SHOWDOWN

Mildura’s Olympic Park Speedway will burst back into life this Friday night for the 4th running of the GT Windscreens Phil Crump International Solo Trophy. The world’s best speedway riders will converge on the famous Olympic Park Speedway track to honour a legend of Australian Speedway in Phil Crump.

Phil’s son Jason will headline the list of riders the former three times Speedway World Champion and Speedway World Cup winner has come out of retirement to do the odd event around Australia to promote the sport but don’t be fooled he will be on mission to win his fathers trophy.

Some of the expected challengers to Crump will be Danish Speedway Grand Prix rider Michael Jepsen Jensen, 2016 World under 21 Speedway Champion Max Fricke, Speedway World Cup rider Sam Masters and Local International riders Justin Sedgmen and Cameron Woodward.

Jepsen Jensen is a current Speedway Grand Prix rider and former World Under 21 Champion, Jensen put it in a solid display at the Australian Speedway Grand Prix on Saturday night scoring 10 points and reaching the semi final stage.

Fricke has had the season of his life in 2016 winning the World under 21 Championship and representing his country in the Speedway World Cup, Fricke is the defending Phil Crump title holder.

Masters has again proved to be a solid International competitor earning his first call up in the Speedway World Cup and being a late replacement for Jason Doyle in the Australian Speedway Grand Prix last Saturday night.

Local riders Justin Sedgmen and Cameron Woodward would both dearly like to win in front of there home fans in good company. Sedgmen the 2014 title holder has come off his first season racing in the main English and Polish leagues and will be keen to show his new skills.

Woodward is having his first competitive hit out in over two years, the inaugural Crump title holder will be trying to win his second title.

Rounding out the Phil Crump Trophy will be local riders Jordan Stewart, Brodie Waters and Cooper Riordan, reigning Victorian Champion Ty Proctor and New South Wales young guns Josh Pickering and Jye Etheridge.

A thirteen rider support solo field will also be on display with some of the best young talent in Australia plus a nine rider 250cc class and a five rider support sidecar field including local stars Neale Hancock, Clint Mayes, Adon Pearce and Nathan Cock.

Former Australian Sidecar Champion Russell Mitchell will also make a appearance during the night.

Gates open at 5pm, junior racing at 6pm with the main event starting at 7.30pm.
