SOLO FOUR TEAM TOURNAMENT

FOUR TEAM TOURNAMENT TO EXCITE MILDURA

An exciting speedway Four Team Tournament will thrill fans at Olympic Park this Sunday from Noon, when some of the best young riders in the land take to the hallowed Mildura circuit.

Part of the now regular Winter Teams Development Program will change format to accommodate the four teams who are racing, but this match will be with one where one rider from each team will be in every heat rather than each team having two riders per heat as we have done in previous meetings.

This week with just four riders per team, every rider will ride against each other over the first four rounds of heats and then the final round we will see all the number four riders against each other in heat seventeen, then all the number threes, then the number twos and then, for the final heat of the day, heat twenty, all the number one riders will face off against each other. It is often in the final round where riders are riding against like riders that the fortunes on an individual team can come to the fore.

The Teams meeting will follow the Junior riders who will race for the Jason Crump Shield, another one of the iconic Trophies which is sought after by the Junior brigade. The junior program is always made up of local riders and our visitors from Adelaide, most of whom have ridden in Adelaide on Saturday as the Gillman part of the double header is conducted each Saturday.

The monthly meetings, on the first weekend of each month are proving very successful with the juniors playing “curtain raiser” to the senior Teams events. The juniors are enjoying being showcased each month in front of an appreciative crowd and then they can watch the senior “future stars” in action.

In the teams competition riders have again been mixed up with the Polish named, Zielona Gora side having Justin Sedgmen at number one, Dale Wood at two, Kane Lawrence at three and Captain with young Queenslander, Cordell Rogerson at four. Zielona Gora will wear the RED helmet colour to identify themselves, even though they will start out of all four gates in their turn.

The Scottish based team, the Edinburgh Monarchs, will be led by Rob Medson, as skipper, at number one with Dakota Ballantyne at two, Matt Pickering at three with Seth Hickey at four. The Monarchs will wear BLUE helmet colours for the entire match, again even when starting from any of gates one to four.

The Leszno Bulls will have former International, Ryan Douglas at one while Fraser Bowes is at two and skipper with New Zealander, Jake Turner at three, having his first ride at Olympic Park and Brandon Coglan rounding off the side at number four. The second Polish named side, Leszno,  will wear the WHITE helmet colours for the match, again, when starting from any gate.

The Swindon Robins will have Declan Knowles at number one with Jack Morrison at two with young Queenslander, Declan Kennedy, at three and Captain with local, Chris Ferguson at four. The Robins riders will wear the YELLOW helmet colours as their form of identification from whatever gate they may start from.

The sixteen riders and the way that they have been selected, will make for exciting racing over the afternoon’s twenty heats and a great deal of interest in the capability of our visiting Kiwi rider, who has not ventured to far west before

The schedule for Sunday is that the Juniors and Seniors will sign in from 9:00am with the Junior program beginning at 10:00am.

The Four Team Tournament will begin at Noon, so patrons are reminded to get down to Olympic Park just before 10:00am to see the future of Australian speedway in action.

Catering will be available with a BBQ and drinks available for all patrons. Free grandstand accommodation is available or patrons can choose to bring a rug or a chair and enjoy the grassy banks which surround the circuit.

Spectator gates will open at 9:30 and entertainment will be provided right through until about 4:00pm. Senior Practice, common at all of our Winter Series meetings will take place during te Teams event, so patrons and team riders will get a break during the contest
