EASTER MOTORCYCLE JUMPS MADNESS
Easter Saturday night will see Mildura’s Olympic Park come alight with the fast jumping “Exposed Signage and Apparel”, 2019 King of the Murray, Arena Motorcross. The AX event will start at 6:00pm and will feature a current World Motorcross Champion, in Bailey Malciewicz, riding at Mildura to defend his 2018 King of the Murray crown.
With the resurgence of Arena Motorcross in Mildura, a big crowd is expected to watch an excellent Motorcross event on the concentrated 546 metre course, as part of Mildura’s, now famous, Easter Power Sorts promotion. Many visiting riders have nominated to try their skills against some of Sunraysia’s best, as they contest at least eight classes during the night.
2018, Junior 125cc World MX Champion and defending King of the Murray Champion, Bailey Malciewicz, from Melton, immediately dominated senior competition after he won his World Junior Title in Horsham in August last year and at this meeting he will be again one of the main contenders for the podium. Bailey was able to compete in the World Junior event as he had started his competition season as a junior and even though he had ridden Open MX as a senior, the FIM regulations allow for a continuation of the class in which you started the year. Bailey also won the 2018 Australian Under 19 MX title, so his two rides in the World Championship at Horsham did not surprise anyone.
Denzel Woulfe, a top class local Australian Supercross and MX rider will be trying hard against the World Champion as well as a host of regulars and new visitors to Mildura for the big Easter weekend. Woulfe will also have his Dad, Carl and brother Eric, all competing, making it a big family occasion.
Amongst the other locals vying for supremacy will be regular National MX competitor, Levi McManus, as well as the well performed Cody Ryan, who is a regular at AX racing.
Joining these riders is Victorian Off Road regular, Liam Mason, who brings some other family members to contest the King of the Murray. Mason has attacked the VORC rounds with zeal and will do the same at Olympic Park on Saturday night. His skill at Off Road should translate to ArenaCross very well
Finke and Hattah regular, Callum Norton, has spent this week at Finke doing some trial runs and will return to Mildura and make the change from long Desert Enduro to the short concentrated ArenaCross to just make a nice change.
Other visiting riders who will want to feature will be Chandler Burns, Toby Marshall and Mitch Brierley, who all come well recommended.
Eight classes of MX riders will contest the 2019 King of the Murray, from the little tackers on their 50cc machines, through the 65cc, then the 85cc, both small wheel and big wheel up to the 125cc to 250cc class for juniors and then branching into senior competition including 125cc up the big 450cc machines, which have A,B and C grade as well as Womens and Veteran classes amongst their number.
Entries will be accepted up to completion of Sign on, which is 4:00pm. Practice will follow, which will be from 4:45, with racing set to start at 6:00pm.
The biggest class on the night will be the 85cc Big Wheel, which is for the better and slightly older junior riders. This is a very keen class and might even require heats races to get to the best 22 riders to make the finals. The competition in this class is great to watch and Mildura’s regular patrons will be waiting with keen interest for this division to race.
Locals who are expected to back up well from just a fortnight ago are 125cc to 250cc winner, Sam Prescherer, Max Phillips, Eric Woulfe Jack Bates, Jordan Doctor, Seb O’Halloran and Logan Chislett while in the 85cc Big Wheel, Max Phillips, Damon Gery-DeJong, Jack Bates, Seb O’Halloran, Lachy Hutchins, Chris Wilson and Lewis Monaghan will be keen to do well as they did recently.
Senior competition is expected to be skilled, fast and quite furious, with many of the riders holding sway over others in the field.
Action can get very close and the large field will need to be on their toes to do well. Nathan Walmslet, Matt Hren, Tyson Brooks, Karlis Ezergalis and Carl Woulfe were all to the fore just two weeks ago.
Olympic Park gates will open for spectators at 4:00pm with action getting under way on track for Practice, from 4:45 pm.
The early start time of 6:00pm will see the meeting done and dusted by around 9:30pm so as patrons can get home in readiness for the start of the 47
th “Mildura 100” Ski Race on Sunday morning.
A Full catering service for Food and Drinks is provided at Olympic Park and patrons are reminded that they may bring a chair or a rug and use the Club’s grassy banks for their comfort.
Entry will be by way of the regular Speedway Ticket office, with patrons walking into the AX Stadium from within the speedway precinct.
