Robinson Plumbing Mildura Sidecar Masters

Robinson Plumbing Mildura Sidecar Masters

A class field will contest the Robinson’s Plumbing – Mildura Sidecar Masters to be held at Olympic Park on Wednedsay, 27th December.

Led by the current World Champions, Warren Monson / Andrew Summerhayes, the Masters event will see some of the top riders in Australia contest the well rated meeting and the tension between the top ranked riders will be visible for all to see. All Sidecar competitors ride with their “hearts on their sleeve”, so patrons will expect some fireworks right throughout the twenty heats and the all important Finals.

The winners of the first ever, “Gates Sidecar Cup” held back in November, Aaron and Teagan Hartwig, will be defending their honour against locals, Byren Gates / Mick O’Loughlin and, Clint Mayes / Sean Coleby, along with well performed SA team, Damian Niesche / Mitch Spear and Queensland visitors, Dave and Chris Bottrell, who are all chances for a finals position and a podium place at night’s end.

The top six selections will not want to drop easy points against any of the rest of the teams as point scoring at all levels will be vital to a team’s chances of making the Robinson Plumbing Semi and Final on the night.

The field is strong all the way through with locals, AJ Pearce/ Eli Bock, Chris Dess / Cam Diwell, Luke Gammond / Jaeben Underhill and Nathan Cock / Jack Wilson contesting hard against regular visitors Klae Hobbs, Liam Cox, Brad Pitt / Nathan McFadden, Darren Howse / Cec Fraser and Paul Donnelly / Jake Roberts. The Club and regular patrons will be keen to see the form of newcomers Tom Adams / Katelyn Silvy and Corkie O’Mealy / Chris Basham, who will both be trying hard to come to terms with the geometry of the famous Olympic Park Circuit at their earliest convenience.

The action will be fast and furious as the Sidecar teams will be planning to all make it into a selection position for the 2018 Australian Sidecar Championship which will be held later in the season at the large Tamworth venue.

Positioning too will be significant, as it is only one month away before most of these riders will be entrants in the important 2018 Victorian Sidecar titles which will be held at Mildura. Teams will wish to make the best impression on the Victorian selectors, where an inclusion in the Victorian Title could open a big opportunity for National selection later in the season.

Support events for the night will be Round 1 of the Mildura Flat Track Masters where patrons will see some of the best Dirt Track riders in the land ripping into each other over every lap of every contest. Riders are coming from all parts to contest the Flat Track Series as Olympic Park has turned this discipline into a spectator highlight over the three rounds of the Series.

Greatly skilled riders include, brothers, Brodie and Josh Waters, Jason Stewart, Brock Gates, Jesse Headland, Mark Jones, Josh Antone, Cec Fraser, Josh Coyne and Ned Faulkhead amongst others.

Many of these riders come from different backgrounds, with many coming from Dirt Track, Speedway and Long Track, Motorcross and a sprinkling from the Road Race discipline. These differing backgrounds make for a most interesting contest and ensure the Series of great spectator value for Olympic Park patrons.

In support too will be a strong field of Classic Sidecars headed by Rob Kemp / Rex Byrne with John Bennett / Jamie Knudsen, Chris Wakefield / Khadijah Cox, George and Geordie Atherton, Don Morris / Nicholas Johns and regular Sydney sider, Greg Griffiths / Nathan McFadden, all making up a quality field of Classic machine riders. The sound of the Classic division is always sweet, with so many machines bringing their distinctive and unique sound, especially the Vincent machine ridden so capably by Broken Hill’s Rob Kemp.

A Junior meeting will begin proceedings from 6:30 pm with the Sidecar Masters event ready to kick off at 7:30 pm.

Olympic Park gates will open at 5:00pm, as usual. Patrons are reminded that ample free Grandstand accommodation is available or patrons are invited to bring a chair or a rug to utilize the grassy banks which surround the Stadium.

Patrons are also reminded that there must be NO BYO by law and the Club advises that a full catering service is provided with excellent quality food and drinks at a reasonable
