FOSSEYS GIN SIDECAR SHOOTOUT

SHOOTOUT TO BE A TIGHT MEETING
The “Fossey’s Gin”, Sidecar Shootout on Saturday night at Mildura’s Olympic Park speedway will be a tight affair as riders hedge to gain an advantage over other riders in the field. In what will be a close and tight contest the annual Shootout will being out the very best for the Team who wants to win the Dudley Bradshaw Trophy on the night.
The meeting format has had a change with the Olympic Park hierarchy deciding to incorporate the Juniors into the senior program. This format was tried at the Club’s last meeting due to the extreme heat and many patrons responded by advising that they enjoyed to see the kids in the main program.
Close matched teams have entered for the Bradshaw Trophy with locals being in with a good chance of taking the prestigious trophy after the heats and finals have been decided.
Dual World Champion, Mick Headland / Brenton Kerr head up the stack along with initial Gates Sidecar Cup winners from our 70th Anniversary meeting, Aaron and Teagan Hartwig who can assume to be in the top list with a great chance of taking the Bradshaw Trophy and a second big win for them in this season. Their favouritism could be thwarted by locals, Byren Gates / Mick O’Loughlin, Club President, Neale Hancock / Brock Gates, Clint Mayes / Sean Coleby or Broken Hill’s Darren Howse / Jack Wheeler.
The remainder of the field is very even with Chris Dess / Cam Diwell, Luke Gammond / Jaeben Underhill, Nathan Cock / Jack Wilson, Mark Radford / Blake Halls, AJ Pearce / Eli Bock and Paul Donnelly / Jake Roberts all capable of taking a win while riding in good company. Many of these teams have taken some major scalps this season with Club officials being delighted with Nathan Cock / Jack Wilson’s recent efforts by out gating Dual World Champ, Mick Headland and holding him at bay for the entire four laps. Chris Dess too has had some good races where he has made the start and held on for the whole journey.
The PJ’s Foodworks Flat Track Masters is back for Round two, with a concentrated field at work. Broken Hill’s Cec Fraser and Logan Coombe will contest against Jordy Giddings, Jesse Headland Jeff Cottington and Dale Knights, so action will be fast and furious.
A strong group of Classic Sidecars will also be engaged with Chris and Hannah Holmes getting Trackside once more against Chris Wakefield / Khadijah Cox , regulars John Bennett / Jamie Knudsen and Mark Radford / Blake Halls and newcomer Glen Hollis with Rex Byrne in the chair. This is the group who has the most fun on the track, as many of them are grinning underneath their helmets for every metre travelled. Hollis was a star at Olympic Park on a solo machine over 30 years ago but has now joined the ranks of the Classic riders, this time switching to the Sidecar way of going.
A four rider group of local junior solos will be engaged with Patrick Hamilton, Riley McCarthy, Angus Garraway and Jackson Milner all taking to the smaller circuit inside Olympic Park. All of these youngsters rode in the recent Australian Junior Speedway Championships held at Olympic Park a few weeks ago.
Milner will double up as a sidecar rider, with his passenger Adam Niesche with local kids, Mike Sheather with Kayden Gates on side and the fast all girl team of Maddison Busch with her passenger Chloe Ackerley. All three teams are improving with every ride and patrons, with the new race format, will get to know these young folk much better and appreciate their efforts. Many of the kids taking to the sidecars are children of former or existing riders which gives the Club wonderful continuity for the future of competition.
Olympic Park gates and sign on will still open at 5:00pm but spectators are reminded that there will be no action until at least 7:00pm.
The Club provides a full catering service trackside and advises that there must be no BYO by law.
Excellent free Grandstand accommodation is available around the circuit or patrons can bring a rug or a chair and avail themselves of a spot on the grassy banks which surround the circuit.
